Barranquilla

Barranquitas (Spanish pronunciation: [baraŋˈkitas], Smallgullies) is a small mountain municipality located in the central region of Puerto Rico(U.S.), south of Corozal and Naranjito; north of Coamo and Aibonito; west of Comerío and Cidra; and east of Orocovis. Barranquitas is spread over 6 wards and Barranquitas Pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). It is part of the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Barranquitas is about one hour by winding roads from San Juan, the capital. It is nestled amid hills and mountains, and nearby, between Barranquitas and Aibonito, is located the "cañón de San Cristóbal" (Canyon of Saint Cristopher); one of the deepest canyons in the Indies. For years, the overlook was used as a municipal garbage; in the last decade, the refuse was removed and the site restored.[1]

Sometimes life is funny... Seriously the only thing that is up and running are the automatic tolls... I mean what kind of a sick joke is that... Now that right there is funny... I now just want to know who built them...

I thought I'd just start with that little ray of sunshine... Because the road to Barranquilla was quite treacherous, lots of sharp S turns, bends, dips, mudslides, potholes, with the associated downed trees and cabling hitting the top of the MRL. An overturned trailer highlighted this excursion.

When we arrived in Barranquilla, we were greeted by a number of happy residents. They have a huge pavilion in which most of the folks set up in for shade.

Supplied the ATM with Satcom right from the gitgo this morning

Lines filled up fast for FEMA support

Next were folks surrounding the SUV Wifi hotspots

The charging stationed helped out a lot of folks

Free Coffee! :)

Medical assistance set up and helped out a huge number of folks

Lots going on but the big win today was FEMA being able to help out so many folks. They had a rock solid connection all day. Only one of their computers acted up out of the whole team, which means that applications were processed without delay. FTW!

I still can't get over the sheer number folks I see in each community affected by Maria...

How many folks waiting patiently are connected using their phones can you see?

Here's few happy teenagers with Wifi access...

All in all, Great Day!

Tomorrow is going to be even better. Tim called in for reinforcements on the Wifi Access point issue.

It's almost midnight and we've just completed the install of 3 Cisco Meraki Access points on the vehicles.

In other news... Yesterday, I crashed my drone into the MRL when I decided to take off from an uneven sidewalk... I've put myself in suspension of my drone pilot license, well until I fix the chip on one of the rotors... lesson learned...

okay heading for a shower and a few hours sleep.. missed the dinner bell with the Meraki install... back at the show at six am...

  1. Fascinating to read first hand reporting on the recovery efforts you are a significant part of. Sounds like your drone has a good chance to fly again hopefully.
