Toa Baja

Today we arrived in Toa Baja, this area was hard hit by wind, rain and flooding. We couldn't get into the areas hardest hit but we settled into an a high area where folks could come and fill out their FEMA aid applications, use the ATM, get some lunch and have folks listen to their stories of loss and help to restore hope. This area really is a beautiful country side but definitely hard hit.

Many trees are down and were blocking the road, but thanks to Army National Guard they have been able to clear paths so resources can get to the area. Also very important is for folks to be able to get to San Juan where they work and provide for their families.

Speaking of the folks, they wait in traffic for hours in an effort to get to San Juan for work and supplies. I couldn't believe the traffic in the opposite direction while receiving a police escort in a seemingly clear road ahead.

Folks waiting in long lines just to get ice from the ice distributor..

In the next picture, almost all traffic signals are out of commission, this increases the problem with traffic. But, as you can see a lot of traffic cops from all over have come aid PR.

We set up in a high traffic area next to a corner store

I'm checking out the wifi signals to ensure we have good signal up and to the satellite and ensure Wifi hotspots weren't stepping on each other.

Teams of great folks assisted folks as they made their way to make shift FEMA camp.

The FEMA Team worked long and hard all day to help folks with aid packages, I'm super proud of the FEMA Team and everyone involved! Nice work!

It's a tough job to help those having a really hard go at it.

The heavy rains didn't dissuade anyone...

Note to self: Your high school Spanish teacher is going to pretty much kill you when she finds out how poorly you're speaking Spanish...

As hard as all this is... I love being able to help out here. Thanks Boss! http://erwinhymergroupna.com/
