Wednesday October 11th PR Update

Shipping lines are operating, but the terminals are totally saturated and all the processes have to be done manually and with messengers. This slows down every move considerably.

The situation at the airport is still chaotic with the warehouses of the airlines being damaged and airlines request immediate pick up of import cargo. All the processes are manual and messengers have to be used for everything.

US Customs is operational, but they are still working in only one of the three locations that they have in the metro area. The airport office is still closed as of today.

Some other general updates on the Island:
  • The hospital ship USNS Comfort continues to provide health care services in the north of Puerto Rico
  • Governor announced today that power will be restored to the La Plata dam today, which supplies drinking water to some 140,000 subscribers.
  • The local power company, announced that electricity has been restored to 15% of all subscribers.
  • According to the PR government website, 78% of the gas stations on the island are in service; 51% of the telecommunications are operating, as well as 28.3% of the cellular antennas (459 of 1,619 on the island and apparently none of them are ATT or Sprint).
  • The local water utility agency, reports that 59.5% of customers have restored water services.
  • The government-imposed curfew remains from 12 am to 5 am.
